NRC grants Callaway Energy Center 20-year license extension

Despite pending contentions, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) renewed the operating license for Ameren Missouri’s Callaway Energy Center (CEC), which generates electricity for about 20 percent of Ameren’s 1.2 million customers in Missouri. The NRC’s renewal authorized the nuclear facility to operate for an additional 20 years — through October 2044.

Webster University students ‘live in poverty’ at Heifer Ranch

Ten Webster University students and seven Maplewood Richmond Heights High School students were split into three families. Each family was assigned a different home, which represented poverty in a specific country. The countries represented were Guatemala, India’s slums and Zambia.

St. Louis family works to make raising backyard chickens easy

Seth and Maria Jansen decided to raise chickens because they wanted a family pet. The Jansen family launched a business called The Easy Chicken. With their business, they hope to help others take on the task of raising backyard chickens.
